Religious observances to mark 58th anniversary of Sri Lanka Army

Religious observances were performed at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi to mark
the 58th anniversary of Sri Lanka Army on Tuesday.
Amidst Seth Pirith chanting by the Maha Sangha headed by Ven. Dr.
Pallegama Sirinivasa, the Army flag along with all other flags of the
Army Regiments and Brigades and Training Squads received the touch of
the Sacred Bo Tree which is customary.
In addition to blessing the flags, a special dhamma sermon was
conducted to evoke the blessings to Army personnel who sacrificed their
lives for the Motherland and all members of the Security Forces.
Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka along with top ranking officers
were present. General Fonseka paid a courtesy call on Venerable
Pallegama Sirinivasa Nayaka Thera the Atamasthanadhipathi and donated on
behalf of the Army Rs. 500,000 to be utilised in the maintenance of the
Sacred place.
He visited the Victory Army Hospital, Anuradhapura and offered gift
parcels to the injured and chatted with them. |
