THE junior officers are the wealth of the Police Force. When any
incident occurs the junior officers visit the scene first. The Police
Department’s prime duty is to protect them, said Inspector General of
Police Victor Perera at a ceremony to mark his first year in office at
the Junior Officers’ Mess at Chaitya Road, Colombo recently.
To mark the event, the Junior Officers distributed scholarship
packages to 20 children who had lost their fathers in the war.

The Police Department is run by the taxes paid by the public.
Therefore, every policeman is duty bound to assist the public to
maintain law and order, the IGP said.
The Police Department had also set up a programme to send junior
officers abroad for further training.
They should learn all three languages - Sinhala, Tamil and English to

scholarships, said it was a historic event to distribute scholarship
packages to children who were affected due to war, to mark the IGP’s
