HNB gifts houses for Padiyathalawa villagers
Hatton National Bank to commemorate the 10th year anniversary of the
bank's flagship product Shanthi Housing Loans the bank decided to bring
about a positive change to the lives of the Padiyathalawa community
providing a new lease of life to its inhabitants.
The bank initially decided to build 15 houses for the fishing village
of Padiyathalawa. This project was assisted

by the numerous Government
agencies.
On July 11, the foundation stones for the houses were laid by Deputy
General Manager, Personal Banking HNB, Chandula Abeywickrema.
This initiative brought in a fresh wave of hope and excitement to the
once isolated fisher village.
After completion of the 15 houses due to high demand for housing as
well other needs of the villagers the bank ended up completing 29 brand
new houses, 70 fishing nets provided through the bank's Gami Pubuduwa
micro finance scheme and a complete library for the village school.
Plans are also under way to construct a modern trading centre which
will pave the way for financial growth for the fishing village.
The transformation that occurred after completion of the houses was
unbelievable as this structure was the first of its kind to the entire
village.
The completed houses were handed over to the villagers by Managing
Director and CEO of HNB Rajendra Theagarajah at a simple ceremony to
coincide with the bank's opening of the Mahiyangana Branch which is
currently the 161st customer service centre. |
