Law is fair to all - President
Rohan Mathes reporting from Badulla
The arm of the law is same and common for all. Nobody has right to
challenge the decisions by the Judiciary though certain disputes may
arise and some may be displeased on certain court decisions, said
President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Badulla.
President Rajapaksa was speaking at the opening of the Badulla Civil
Appeal Court Complex following the fifth Jana Rally.
President Rajapaksa stressed the importance of the Executive,
Legislature and the Judiciary working in unison mutual respect and
understanding with one another in a democracy for the betterment of the
nation. The President pointed out that he as the executive and a lawyer
always acted with profound respect and faith in the judiciary.
"The arm of the law is the same and common for all. Nobody has the
right to challenge the decisions by the judiciary although certain
disputes may arise and some may be displeased on certain court
decisions."
He was of the view that the judiciary had at all times acted
independently and believed it will be so in the future too. Some are
languishing in the prison cells for long periods for committing petty
offenses due to their inability to pay fines. We should re-think on
their plight.
