UN's Lousie Arbour to meet President Thursday

UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, Lousie Arbour who arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday to observe the HR situation in the country, is scheduled to meet for Human Rights and Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe today.

After meeting the Minister, Lousie Arbour would have deliberations with leaders of several political parties with a possible meeting with civil society scheduled next. The UN High Commissioner on HR on Thursday would meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa and afterwards the Attorney General and the Chief Justice.

Thereafter Arbour would visit Jaffna on Friday with the intention of meeting the Military hierarchy in the peninsula and the civil society along with the clergy including the Bishop of Jaffna. A joint press conference would be held by Arbour and Minister Samarasinghe on Saturday, Ministry sources said.
