Delmege Group in 85-78 win over Akbar Brothers

BASKETBALL: Fancied Delmege Group registered a 85 points to 78 victory over Akbar Brothers in their `A’ division fixture of the Mercantile Basketball Tournament played at Otters courts, recently. The former ended up as runners up last year. The tournament is being organised by the Mercantile Services Basketball Association of Sri Lanka.

The half time scorers stood at 38 points to 36 with the winners taking the lead. National cap Roshan Randima with 29 points was the best shooter for Delmege Group and was ably helped by D. Himantha with 17 points and S. Perera with 14 points.

In another `A’ division match Dialog Telekom trounced David Peiris Motor Company by a margin of 79 points to 59. The former were ahead 36 points to 25 at the breather.

V. Kumarasinghe with a massive 29 points, D. Rajapakse with 16 points and R. de Zoysa with 12 points stood out for Dialog Telekom while for David Peiris Motor Company J. Bandara with 18 points and D. Barathi and P. Munasinghe with 12 and 10 points respectively were the chief scorers.

HSBC beat Seylan Bank by 78 points to 68 in a `C’ division match when the former took a 37 points to 30 lead at the half time. A. Wijesuriya made the biggest contribution for the winners by scoring 37 points with W. Cruze and T. Kumarasinghe obtaining 13 points each.

The reigning women’s champions Seylan Bank registered a 53 points to 37 victory over David Peiris Motor Company in a women’s `A’ division fixture.

The latter dominated the half time scores at 22 points to 19 but Seylan Bank came up with an improved performance in the latter part of the match to emerge victorious. Asia’s ranked number two women’s cager Premila Fernando with 17 points and L. Sadamalie with 13 points did well for the winners while S. Gomes with 15 points and G. Kodikara with 11 points were the top scorers for David Peiris Motor Company.

HSBC beat Dialog Telekom (B) by 42 points to 34 in another `C’ division match after taking a 27 points to 17 lead at the breather. A. Wijesuriya (19) and S. Ramanadan (14) did well for the winners while R. Hameed and M. Mohideen scored 12 points each for Dialog Telekom.

Mobitel beat Global Payment by 44 points to 37 when the half time scores were tied at 21 points each. S. Perera (14) and P. Fernando (13) were the best shooters for the winners while C. de Silva with 13 points and S. Palihawadane with ten points excelled for Global Payment.
