Student faculties closed over volleyball

COLOMBO: The Colombo University Science Faculty and School of Computing were temporarily shut down yesterday following a clash between sections in the two departments on Monday night. A student was injured in the incident.

A volleyball match was held between students of Colombo University Science Faculty and School of Computing at the Colombo campus ground on Monday evening.

"The match ended on a heated note which extended to fisticuffs between the two teams. One side was accusing the other of using a deflated ball," Cinnamon Gardens OIC Keerthiperuma said.

"A student from the school of computing who sustained injuries in the incident was admitted to the Colombo National hospital," he added. According to an official from the University of Colombo, the Faculty of Science and School of Computing were temporarily closed till further notice.

"We had to close these two faculties to avoid further clashes between the students. When calm returns, they will be reopened," the official said.
