Salutation to this day
A mortal remains perched
Upon a shaky unsteady
Stool of today,
Back turned towards yesterday,
With amassed regrets,
Facing morrow
With utopian aspirations,
Forgetting and ignoring
In consequential pre-occupation
Today. This moment.
Yesterday is dissolved.
Morrow is unformed.
Why worry about imagery
Non existent.
Indulging in retrospection idle,
Aspiring in anticipation,
Both tantamount
To folly inapt.
Remorse about the past,
Elation about the future,
Is contrary to wisdom.
Time is in a flux
And fleeting, remember.
Thou art racing through space
In incredible rapidity.
Calculated at
Nineteen miles a second.
Today is thy precious possession,
The only possession.
Tear thyself from the tangle
Of brooding O! mortal,
And look to the pivotal today.
In its brief existence lie
All the variegated
Aspects of living.
Ignore yesterday. Ignore morrow.
Contrive to live
In a day-tight compartment.
Yesterday is a dream dissolved.
Morrow is a vision fancied.
"Today well lived
Makes yesterday
A dream of happiness,
And morrow a vision of hope"!
- H.K. Amal Premadasa
Goodbye worries
I washed my sadness
With drops of salty tears
And burried deep under
In my aching heart
Then planted the
Seeds of happiness
On it happily
I blew away
Lonely clouds
With my sighs
Then smiling sun let the
Happy plants
Grow freely
Up to the sky
