An ode to a sunflower
O, Sunflower you thing of beauty,
You touched the lives of many,
In a time so short
The four seasons you passed,
On the journey to your end.
O, Sunflower you thing of beauty,
On the green surface of your young seeds,
Among the four inches between your petals,
Many a bee and butterfly sat to refresh themselves,
While the spring was still young.
O, Sunflower you thing of beauty,
Your petals were a dark hue of yellow,
As your seeds turned brown,
You were beautiful and full of energy,
When you followed the disk of light.
O, Sunflower you thing of beauty,
You stood erect,
Full of courage,
With the wisdom you had acquired,
Over the seasons.
O, Sunflower you thing of beauty,
You felt your strength ebbing,
While the cold gnawed at your body,
Withered with age,
You knew it was time to go,
O, Sunflower you thing of beauty,
You disappeared before the ground turned white,
With fresh flakes of snow,
But, will your sons follow you,
Will they replace you when the spring rains come?
