Over to you Chairman Moratuwa UC
My sister served in the Health Department and retired after 30 years
service.
Her only land described as ‘Gorakagahawatte’ on Jubilee Road,
Moratuwa within the Moratuwa Urban Council limits depicting lots 6, 7
and 8 in preliminary plan (CO) 4183 of 13.10.76 by Government Gazette
notification nos. 144 of 27.12.74, 307 of 3.3.78 and 103/7 of 11.3.82;
the Government Agent, Western Province reference GAs letter ATH 18/599
dated 1.9.82 awarded my sister compensation under the Land Acquisition
Act Rs. 26,400.
Without paying the compensation money to my sister, the Moratuwa
Local Government Authority organised a Shramadana campaign to widen the
road over the said land blocks thus using the UC road open for vehicular
traffic.
The ruse adopted to circumvent justice and fair-play against a
helpless lady pensioner is deplorable. Series of correspondence over
this matter commenced as far back as 1982 and up-to-date Moratuwa Local
Government authorities have turned a deaf, dumb and blind attitude about
the compensation money Rs. 26,400.
Who pocketed the money is the million dollar question?

Over to you Chairman CEB
I rang up 2481248, which is the Ceylon Electricity Board Call Centre
number, thrice on August 29 at 5.45 a.m. to complain about a breakdown
but there was no answer.
A fourth call was given and a male voice asked me to hold on till
eternity without recording my complaint. I took a fifth call and the
voice at the other end took my complaint and queried as to where I live,
to which I replied, Pannipitiya.
He then said that the power supply would be restored only on the
30th.
Not even two minutes later the lights came on. I wonder why the CEB
employs such sick jokers who are paid to mislead the public.
The CEB Call Centre, when it was first established, had efficient
well mannered employees who were prompt in answering the phone and
taking down complaints. Since late, this too has suffered the same fate
as the Telecom Call Centre.
Members of the public have to keep on hanging on their phones for
hours to get through to someone often running up high telephone bills.
People would not be contacting the call centre, if they could get
through the respective depots in the event of a power failure.
The depot staff is worse. They take the receiver off the cradle, the
moment there is a breakdown.
It is high time the CEB employees realise that the public pays good
money for the service provided by them. Hence they are duty bound to
treat their customers with due respect.
CHANDRINI DE SILVA – Pannipitiya
Over to you Mayor CMC and Chairman UDA
The recent action of the CMC and the UDA authorities in demolishing
of the small cement boundry wall which surrounded the statue of the
great statesman late Lakshman Kadirgamar at Liberty roundabout, even
before the plaster could dry is most deplorable.
There are many unauthorised structures in the Colombo City which
cause inconvenience to the public and also hinder the free movement of
the pedestrians and vehicles. But the CMC and the UDA turn a blind eye.
There are many instances where these unauthorised structures have
been demolished on court orders only to find that a few days after they
are back again in the same place with the blessings of politicians.
Two good examples are the structures that were demolished near
Nawaloka Hospital at Union Place end and those around the Central Bus
Stand in Pettah. Why doesn’t the Municipal Commissioner and the UDA take
action to demolish these unauthorised structures as well?
It is time the President looked into the affairs of the CMC and UDA.
