Swiss aid to develop Point Pedro Base Hospital

JAFFNA: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between
the Government and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation to
develop the Point Pedro Base Hospital, Jaffna, a Healthcare and
Nutrition Ministry spokesman said.

He said the Point Pedro Base Hospital in the northern part of
Vadamarachchi zone in the Jaffna district is the second largest hospital
in the district which provides secondary healthcare services to about
150,000 in the three Divisional Secretariats in Vadamarachchi.
Two third of the population of the Thenmaradachchi and one thirds of
the population of Valigamam East area are covered by this hospital. The
total estimated population is 275,000.
Responding to a request by DPDGHS of Jaffna in 2006 the Swiss Agency
for Development and Cooperation has agreed to develop the hospital.
Under this project, it will finance the rehabilitation of the water
supply system, sanitary facilities and some other facilities up to Rs.12
million. |
