COLOMBO: Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Opposition Leader Vasudeva
Nanayakkara speaking about the present administration highlighted the
need to make the council provide a better service to ratepayers under a
new administration.
“The UPFA councillors do not want to blame anyone but have the right
to point the finger if and when fraud takes places,” Nanayakkara said.
He said the Colombo People’s Development Circle is a charter of the
CMC members who intend to end the alleged corruption and malpractices of
the council by submitting 17 demands.
These demands were in connection with the utilising of 50 per cent of
the funds available with CMC for city cleaning, giving priority to
purchase gully bowsers, filling of vacancies at the council without
further delay and allocating of more money for under privileged people
in the city.
He made this statement at a seminar organised by the Colombo People’s
Development Circle which was formed to act as a watchdog of the CMC.
Deputy Mayor S. Rajendran said the President would never appoint CMC
Commissioner Dr. Jayantha Liyanage as the Special Commissioner and is
well aware of the true situation in the CMC.
