PCH Holdings intensifies community services

PCH Holdings, a well diversified local company that has interests in sectors such as computer hardware, software and assembling, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, restaurants, office automation, consumer electronics, audio visuals, international operations, automobiles and property development has intensified their community service work with a recent donation of dry rations, toys and healthcare equipment to the children’s wards of Maharagama Cancer Hospital.

Explaining the thought process behind this activity, Head of Marketing for PCH Rizwan Anise said, “CSR has become an inevitable part of modern day business operations. We at PCH Holdings wanted to get involved in community service projects that are on par with our business operations and have identified healthcare and education as the best frontiers we can play a pivotal role.

With the tightening economic conditions we feel the inmates of national hospitals are a worst hit lot and therefore decided to tie-up with Maharagama Cancer Hospital children’s wards where we will be making donations on an annual basis.”

Cancer once reached the advanced stages is an incurable disease and according to statistics 1 out of 10 natural deaths in Sri Lanka is attributed to cancer. The children’s wards of Maharagama hospital is home for about 120 inmates undergoing treatment for different types of cancer and all of them are less than 12 years old. All these kids are accompanied by their mothers.

PCH Holdings staff donated toys and gift packs for the children, rations to their mothers and some essential medical equipment for the ward. In addition, plenty of entertainment was lined up with the famous “Suranga Maama” of ITN, fun spell with a clown, cartoon program, fun games and a sing-along session where all inmates took part eagerly.

PCH Holdings that believes in an employee focused culture carried out this activity as a program that creates work-life balance and an opportunity to build camaraderie and mutual understanding among staff members.

Head of HR for PCH Holdings Jude Fernando said, “As a responsible corporate citizen engaged in socially conscious business practices, PCH Holdings family feels that it is essential we share our resources with the society we operate in.

The outcome of the program was very touching as it gave us an opportunity to reach out to a vulnerable segment in our society.

Mingling and playing with the children itself, was a rewarding experience and it gave all of us an opportunity to perceive life in a more objective and a positive manner and most certainly we’ll be making this an annual event on our calendar.”

According to the management of PCH Holdings, the company is seriously focused on developing a strategic CSR culture that would revolve around health & safety, and education. Currently the Company is developing a strategic CSR blueprint in compliance with their work ethic and business operations.

The above was one of the first steps towards this direction and a series of community service projects are planned for the future.
