Weapons haul recovered

COLOMBO: Troops engaged in search and clearing operations in Taravikulam in Batticaloa recovered a large haul of arms and ammunition including 55 T56 weapons, a spokesman for the Media Centre for National Security told the Daily News.

This also included two T81 Light Machine Guns, two T56 Light Machine Guns, three Sniper guns, four 60 mm Mortar Guns, one MPMG, four RPG Guns, one 12.7 mm gun, C4 explosives packed in 10 cans, 15 kg TNT explosives, 711 82 mm mortar bombs.

Meanwhile, one LTTE boat heading towards Mandathivu islands was also fired upon by the Security Forces at around 4.30 a.m. yesterday.

Intercepted radio transmissions later confirmed that three Tiger cadres were seriously injured due to Naval fire.
