AGJI in Madagascar
The Association of Gem and Jewellery Industry, has formed a branch of
the Association for its members engaged in gem business activities based
in Madagascar.
President of the Association T. Rusiripala took this initiative when
he visited Madagascar to attend to an industry related presentation to
the IFC branch of the World Bank in Tana. At a meeting he held with the
Sri Lankan gem traders currently operating in Tana, Madagascar it was
decided to form a branch of the AGJI in that country.
The need for Sri Lankan Traders in Madagascar to have a closer
liasion and link with their counterparts in Sri Lanka and to get the
services of a national level trade association of the industry, are the
main concerns of the AGJI.
Gem traders welcomed the proposal to form a branch of the Sri Lankan
Association and decided to expand its scope to those Sri Lankans engaged
in mining activities in distant and far out places in Madagascar such as
Illakaka and Sakhara.
