Lanka lose to Pakistan

CRICKET: A fine opening stand of 94 runs between Salman Butt and Mohammad Hafeez guided Pakistan to a five wicket victory against Sri Lanka in their Twenty20 warm up match played at Centurion yesterday.

Butt hit a top score of 51 and Hafeez made 45 as Pakistan reached their target of 163 runs with more than an over to spare. Sri Lanka after been put into bat were off to a flying start with Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga adding 45 runs in five overs.

Sri Lanka however lost their way a bit at 80 for 4 before Jehan Mubarak revived the innings sharing stands of 36 and 41 with Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan respectively.

Sri Lanka’s first match in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup tournament will be against Kenya on September 14.
