‘Security Eye’ a success in Gampaha

GAMPAHA: The special ‘Security Eye’ mobile unit set up at the Gampaha
Police has rendered a successful and commendable service in maintaining
law and order and preventing crime in Gampaha.
The mobile unit uses a vehicle donated by the Gampaha business
community for its use. This vehicle is also maintained on a daily basis
by the business community without burdening the state.
This mobile unit busted LTTE plans to create mayhem in Gampaha
following the arrest of a suspected Sinhala LTTE cadre. The suspect
arrested by a police team led by Sub Inspector B.K.A. Nissanka on
interrogation disclosed several LTTE plans to unleash bomb explosions
enabling police to take necessary precautions to thwart them.
The suspect had received training in LTTE camps and had been on the
LTTE pay roll receiving a monthly payment of Rs. 25,000 interrogations
revealed. Two of his accomplices had escaped, investigations revealed.
The public of Gampaha have acclaimed the services rendered by the
‘Security Eye’ operation and thanked its officers for ensuring their
security.

Suspect in abortion case granted bail

KURUNEGALA: The Kurunegala High Court Judge Tudor Gunaratne ordered
the release of a suspect in an alleged abortion case on cash bail of Rs.
100,000 and personal bail of Rs. 500,000 on Thursday.
The suspect Dr. Santha Loku Bandara is alleged to have run an illegal
abortion clinic on the Kurunegala-Colombo main road at Wehara on June
26, 2007. He was arrested following a raid conducted by the police
special investigation unit, Colombo. Senior State Counsel Yohan Liyanage
has objected to the granting of bail and said the investigations were
not completed.
Attorney-at-Law Lakmal Ratnayake moving for bail submitted to Court
that his client was suffering from chicken pox and admitted to the
Kurunegala Teaching Hospital and praying to Court that the suspect was
an innocent person. |
