Smuggler arrested
COLOMBO: An Indian national who was attempting to smuggle euro
notes worth Rs. 16 million hidden in his shoes to Singapore, was
arrested at the Katunayake International Airport yesterday morning.
The suspect who had arrived on a flight from Chennai around 5.00 a.m.
yesterday morning had exited the Airport and had re-entered to board a
flight to Singapore, when he was caught with the cash which was
carefully hidden in his shoes.
Airport sources said that the suspect was behaving in a suspicious
manner which prompted an immediate search by officials which led to the
discovery of the euro notes which was arranged in six bundles.
The arrest was made by Assistant Director of Customs Mali Piyasena
with the help of a team comprising Customs Officer H. M. S. Premarathne,
Asst.Officers J. H. S. Jayakody, T. Senathilake, G. H. Rathnayake, W.
Piyasumana and M. Fernando. |
