Over to you Chairman CEB

The Vadamarachchi area in the Jaffna District receives a very poor supply of electricity at present. Interruptions to the supply take place throughout the day; it is worse in the night. Every other night, the supply is cut off from 6.30 to 9.00.

These interruptions, especially the one at night, cause a great deal of hardship to the consumers. The students preparing for examinations face the brunt of these stoppages. It is said that the existing power plants are not capable of generating sufficient power to maintain a regular supply throughout the day and the consumers are requested to cut down on the use of electricity voluntarily.

On the other hand, illicit tapping of electricity goes on in the area unchecked. Even the electricity men who go about maintaining lines or reading meters turn a blind eye when they pass these connections.

In several consuming units, the electricity meters are rigged and consequently the correct reading is never revealed. I am sure that if these illegal practices are eliminated, there would be enough power to go round uninterrupted. Duty conscious and devoted officials are required for the purpose.

Will the Electricity Board take some effective measures to grant relief to the suffering consumers?

Thank you Chairman Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha

This to express a word of appreciation for the excellent work done by the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha to keep Kiribathgoda town free of garbage. It will be pertinent to mention that irrespective of a Poya or a statutory holiday, the garbage disposing personnel come for garbage removal once a week and the city area is attended to everyday.

Towards this, the Eksath Sinhala Velanda Sangamaya has kept bins in the city for the collection of garbage.

This is a good example to the other surrounding towns, if they do not have a good disposal system as yet.
