Ministry introduces low-cost firewood gas cooker

COLOMBO: The Agriculture Ministry has commenced a programme to
introduce a low-cost firewood gas cooker among the public as an
alternative to escalating prices of LP Gas.
The Ministry has selected a firewood gas cooker manufactured by
Spectra Industries Lanka, Kurunegala as a very low-cost method to be
introduced among households for cooking.
The Ministry will launch countrywide publicity campaigns to promote
this firewood gas cooker among the public.
Agriculture Minister Hemakumara Nanayakkara at a ceremony to launch
the firewood gas cooker, said there was no way of controlling the
increasing price of LP Gas.
Agriculture Ministry decided to introduce this low-cost firewood gas
cooker to Sri Lankans as an alternative to LP Gas.
The Ministry will seek help of actors, actresses and sportsmen to
promote this gas cooker among the public, the Minister said.
“This firewood gas cooker has the capacity of preparing four meals
for a five-member family within one hour using 600 grams of glyricidia.
This gas cooker has been produced according to the standard and
technology recommended by the National Engineering Research and
Development Centre of Sri Lanka (NERD),” he said. |
