PCs left out of promotions could appeal to Police Commission
Mohammed Naalir
COLOMBO:“If any injustice is caused to Police Constables in the
process of promoting them to the rank of Sergeants on the recommendation
of Police Commission, they can submit their appeals to the Commission
within two weeks”, Police Recruitment and Promotions DIG D.S.R. Wanaguru
said on Monday. However, he said documents which were not submitted
before would not be considered as a supporting document in the appeals.
The DIG said those who failed at the first-aid test at the initial
stage can submit certificates confirming their passes at the relevant
test for the consideration of promotion with their appeals.
The DIG said it was decided earlier to promote 15 per cent female
Police Constables into the rank of Sergeants considering the total
number of Women Police Constables, except those from the technical
division.
“However, due to inconvenience experienced by the Police Department
to implement this decision it was later decided to promote 731 Women PCs
and 1,372 male constables as sergeants. One thousand and two hundred
seventy male Police Constables and 680 female constables have been
selected for promotion.
“Though 102 vacancies still exist in the rank of Police Sergeants,
promotion of 422 constables who had obtained 52 per cent has not been
considered for promotion as they could not exceed the required marks”,
the DIG added.
