LACSL workshop on Child Rights

Balapitiya: The Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka (LACSL) jointly
with the Balapitiya Regional Centre recently conducted a workshop on
Child Rights at Ambalangoda Town Hall.
The programme was supported by the International Development Law
Organisation (IDLO).
LAC Chairman S. S. Wijeratne, Chief of Party IDLO Dinesh Kangaratnam,
Provincial Probation Commissioner Chinthaka Lokuhettige, Programme
Manager Legal - IDLO M. Thirunavukarasu, LAC Balapitiya Regional Centre
Director Percy Munindradasa and LAC staff members participated in the
inaugural session.
The Police personnel attached to the Women and Child Desks in the
Balapitiya Police division, Probation Officers, School Principals, Media
personnel and Grama Niladharis in the area also participated.
The programme was focused on child rights and legal framework for the
protection and promotion of child rights in Sri Lanka. The legal issues
in relation to Tsunami Orphaned Children were the main focal point in
the workshop.
Attorney at Law Jayaruwan Dissanayake, Balapitiya LAC Legal Officer
Samanmalee Siriwardene, Attorney-at-law Sharmaine Gunaratne were among
the resource persons.
