Casanova caught at last
KUALA LUMPUR: A Casanova on the police ‘wanted list’ for fleecing
victims of cash and valuables was arrested after a two-year hunt.
The theme park executive was with his Sri Lankan wife and
six-month-old child at a house in Taman Midah, Cheras, when police
showed up at about 9a.m.
The 37-year-old suspect was detained to facilitate investigations
into several cheating cases involving young women, mostly air
stewardesses.
Initial police investigations revealed the victims were conned into
parting with substantial amounts of money and valuables, worth tens of
thousands of ringgit.
The suspect gained the trust of his victims after proposing marriage
and promise of a better life.
He would then sweet-talk them into parting with their money and
valuables to settle “outstanding debts”.
Cheras police chief ACP Rusli Mohamed confirmed the arrest of the
suspect and his wife’s relative but declined to elaborate.
It is learnt that in 2005, the Casanova went into hiding in Sri Lanka
after his victims lodged police reports against him. There, he married a
Sri Lankan woman and planned to settle down. Two months ago, the man and
his family arrived here for a vacation and police were tipped off on his
whereabouts.
