Seminar on effective contract management

The Chamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka will host a full day seminar on Effective Contract Management on August 22 at the Galle Face Hotel from 9.00 a.m.

The seminar will enlighten participants on effective management of construction contracts with special emphasis on introduction to standard bidding documents by Jayantha de Mel, preparation of bidding documents by senior quantity surveyor H.D. Chandrasena, management of contracts and best practices by Head of the Department of Building Economics of the University of Moratuwa, Dr. Rameez- deen.

President of the Institute of Engineers of Sri Lanka, Chula de Silva will analyse the risk factors. Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and President of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Sri Lanka Prof. Chitra Weddikkara will speak on loophole engineering, disputes and resolutions while a presentation on legal aspects of contract management and on claims will be made by attorney and engineer Ananda Ranasinghe.

The Chamber has also facilitated a presentation on “ International Construction Contracts and Dispute Resolutions” by Chrishmal Warnasuriya a practicing attorney and Barrister who has obtained a masters degree in law on commercial banking, international finance and international construction contracts and arbitration.

This is another endeavour of the Chamber of Construction Industry to foster knowledge based construction industry.

The seminar will educate the participants on proactive management of contracts, effectively defining contractual obligations, identification of risks to facilitate management of contracts to optimise their performance, avoiding potential pitfalls.

All those who are engaged in construction procurement such as construction consultants, construction contractors and public sector client organisations such as the Road Development Authority, National Water Supply and Drainage Board would benefit with the expertise and experience of the a panel of resource persons, all of whom require no introduction as they are well-known in the industry.
