ALFEA seeks Govt support to enter European market
The Licensed Foreign Employment Agencies urge the Government to
support them to enter the European labour market.
Past President of the Association of Licensed Foreign Employment
Agencies (ALFEA) U. T. M. Anver told Daily News Business that there is a
high demand for caretakers, nurses, labourers in the construction
industry in Europe. Our local workers have the potential to earn five
times more than what they earn in the Middle-East countries working in
Europe he said.
“We have identified that though there are more job opportunities in
Europe for Lankans, there should be Government involvement in dealing
with the European labour market,” he said.
Sri Lanka lacks in promoting local labour in the international market
and more promotions need to be done by the Foreign Employment Bureau to
gain more job opportunities for the country, Anver said.
“There should be legal entity in Sri Lanka to assist migrant workers
and Sri Lanka needs to enter into bilateral agreements with Middle-East
countries where Lankans are working,” he said. - AS |
