Ratnam-Negombo YSC clash in Round Two
Bernard PERERA
SOCCER: Negombo Youth Sports Club which heads the Kit Premier
League segment A-1 will clash in a crucial game against Ratnam SC the
defending champions in an another crucial game at CR and FC ground.
These two teams were engaged in their first leg’s last game a week
ago play again this week. This will definitely give a clear indication
of their positions for the semi-final.
A win for Negombo team will strengthen their chances of reaching the
semis while Ratnam SC well move into a difficult position with a target
of winning all their remaining matches in this round.
If they fail to do so Jupiters SC the second team from Negombo will
take a step forward in march towards the semis.
Both Negombo teams were on equal terms with 10 points while Ratnam in
one point behind them. A draw in the key game between Ratnams and
Negombo Youth will not help the Kotahena in any way and will have to
stay in their same third position.
Jupiters SC Vs Army game which is scheduled for tomorrow and if
Jupiters get the same result a win as last week it will make things much
harder for the Kotahena lads.
The other game between Air Force and Kandy Youth SC scheduled for
today in the same segment will not have any effect on the leaders with
the result of this game.
Meanwhile, the segment A-11 too will see an important game on Sunday
when the table leaders Saunders SC take on New Yongs SC.
A win for the Wennappuwa team will put them the opportunity to stay
on top for further period while it has become a must win game for second
placed Saunders SC if they are to keep their chances for a semi final
berth.
The same category is well faught by Blue Star SC. They are at present
stay at No. 3 should win their game against Police today.
Though Blue Star in favoured to win Police team make an upset here
and if this takes place it be difficult for the Kalutara team to
maintain their third slot.
Super Beach SC from Segment B-1 with 13 points is well ahead of Slave
Island Club Jawa Lane SC. In Segment B-2 it is Sri Lanka Navy in front
with 15 points to be above Hy Line SC from Kandy 9 points. Navy’s
position at present is commendable as they returned to the tournament
after one year lapse.
