KOTTE: Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara presided when Parliament met at
9.30 a.m. yesterday. After the presentation of papers and oral
questions, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremenayake made a special
statement before the House.
Wimal Weerawansa (JVP): It has been proved that UN officer Sir John
Holmes has come to Sri Lanka to tarnish the country’s image. We all
explained it to the Government, but the Government thought his visit
would benefit us. He has enjoyed, attended several functions and visited
many places.
Finally he expressed negative sentiments about the country. He has
said that Sri Lanka is not a good country for humanitarian workers.
He asked why those 17 members killed were in the battle front. Why
isn’t he talking about other innocent civilians killed by the LTTE?
Don’t allow these officers to come to Sri Lanka again. Lakshman Kiriella
(UNP): The UNP always advises the Government on how to keep contacts
with foreigners.
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremenayake: If you need a debate on this
issue, we can give.
