‘Suhadas day’ in memory of terrorist killings

BATTICALOA: The ‘Suhadas day’ will be marked on August 12 in
the Batticaloa district in memory of the victims who were brutally
killed by the terrorists in Eravur in 1990.
One hundred and twenty one Muslims were massacred while they were
sleeping in their homes. The victims were gunned down and stabbed to
death.
Many of the victims lost their lives because of the activity of the
terrorists from the areas such as Iyankerny, Suratayan Kudah under the
purview of Eravur town and Eravur Pattu Pradeshiya Sabha divisions.
To condemn the crucial activity of the terrorists, the Suhadas day,
which is an Arabic word for ‘martyrs day’ marked every year.
On Sunday all shops in Eravur will be closed and Dua prayers
conducted at mosques.
White flags and banners will fly at private institutions, shops and
houses. Sermons will be held by religious leaders in memory of the
martyrs. |
