Over to you Mayor Dehiwala/Mt. Lavinia MC

Several complaints have been made (both verbal and written) to the Deputy Commissioner, Municipal Council, Dehiwala/Mount Lavinia, Medical Officer of Health of the area, Public Health Inspector of the area and the Police regarding the huge pile of garbage that has become a regular feature in front of the premises 91, Sri Dhammadara Road, Ratmalana, which have fallen on deaf ears.

Since garbage from the houses or boutiques are not collected by the Dehiwala/Mount Lavinia Municipal Council workers on a regular basis, this has become the dumping grounds for refuse.

This has created a serious health threat to the residents since the nearby drain is full of stagnant water with abundant mosquito larvae and the coconut husks and plastic containers in the garbage pile also forming ideal breeding places for many species of mosquitoes (not to mention the flies that breed at will on the stinking mess that has been created at this site).

In spite of the dengue/filariasis awareness campaigns held every year, this mountain of garbage has remained over many years. We, the residents of this area, plead with the authorities to look in to this problem and offer a lasting solution.

Over to you Mayor Colombo MC

There is no need to dissolve the CMC. instead the Government should provide all assistance and co-operation to the new Mayor and his group who were elected by the ratepayers of the Council.

It is easy for anyone to make requests to dissolve and hold fresh elections.

Even if a new group or a party wins the election, what they are going to do is to provide the rate-payers a service within the means of the CMC.

Therefore the Government should provide the present Council with financial assistance and grants to develop the wards equally. What the ratepayers expect from the Council is a clean city with cleared unobstructed pavements for safe walk.

The government should also take action against corruption in the council for good administration.

All unauthorised buildings and structures which are against the Municipal by-laws should be cleared to make Colombo a beautiful city.
