Pensioners must get increments like Govt servants - English
Teachers’ Union
R. M. RATNAYAKE, Kandy South special corr
KANDY: Pension payments made to Government pensioners should
be increased as and when salary increments are granted to public
servants.
A proposal to this effect has been made to the Government by the
English Teachers’ Union and all pensioners should be grateful to the
Union, said Retired Principal and Kadugannawa Government Pensioners’
Union Secretary Pandit Chandra Sri Shanthikumara.
He was addressing a special general meeting of the Government Service
Pensioners’ Association held at Kadugannawa to mark its 48th
anniversary.
Shanthikumara said pensioners are grateful for this proposals. But
some Government servants ignore the pensioners.
It is a national custom to serve and look after the senior citizens
who have sacrificed their life for the country.
He said honouring senior citizens is in line with the Mahinda
Chintana.
The English Teachers’ Union has pointed out that it is unreasonable
to withhold the salary for every mistake and requested to abolish
Section A of the Pension Act. Another important request is rectifying
salary anamolies. |
