Rs. 50 million thyroid treatment unit at Cancer Hospital

de Silva recently opened a treatment unit for Thyroid cancer constructed
at a cost of Rs. 50 million at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital.

It is revealed that there are about 1,250 thyroid cancer patients
registered at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. The new unit can treat six
patients at a time and radio therapy treatment will be given for those
patients under secured environment.
Minister de Silva requested project proposals from doctors to set up
similar units at hospitals such as Badulla, Kurunegala and Karapitiya to
provide treatment to patients at their local hospitals.
Eighty per cent of the construction work on a Linear Accelerated
System which is to be constructed at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital
costing Rs. 1500 million has been completed.
The Minister inspected the project after opening the new unit. The
Linear Accelerated System to be completed and opened by August 2008.
Minister also handed over resources to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. |
