Job-oriented vocational training countrywide
COLOMBO: The Youth Affairs Ministry has made arrangements to conduct
job-oriented vocational training courses at countrywide, National Youth
Services Council’s (NYSC) training centres.
Arrangements have been made to conduct motor mechanism, driving,
computer and English training courses at these training centres.
This was revealed when Youth Affairs Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi
made an inspection tour to NYSC’s training centre at Batangala,
Avissawella recently.
This training centre has the capacity of provide residential training
to 150 students.
However, the residential training courses of this centre have been
stopped about seven years ago. At present, only 25 students are
following motor mechanism and five students are following welding
training courses. In addition, youth corps centre and ornamental fish
project are also conducted in this premises.
After the establishment of the NYSC in 1979, this training centre has
conducted 14 training courses for youth. But difficulties have cropped
up to conduct the training courses of these centre due to limited funds
allocated to the NYSC in year 2000.
The Minister said the re-establishment of this training centre is a
responsibility of the Ministry. The Minister instructed the officials to
restart the training courses at this centre. |
