Over to you Mayor Dehiwela-Mt. Lavinia MC
We are reluctantly compelled to bring to your notice regarding the
unauthorised dumping of garbage at the entrance of the First Lane Off Waidya Road, Dehiwela by the residents around the area and many who come
in vehicles from other places and made this a major dumping ground.
This has caused a serious health hazard to residents living close due
to flies and the bad stench emitted and very often when the garbage
collectors do not come the garbage piles up and is strewn by stray cats,
dogs, cattle, crows etc.
This causes a major part of the garbage to fall in to the main drain
thereby blocking and causing stagnation making it an ideal breeding
ground for mosquitoes.
DISGUSTED RESIDENTS
Thank you Mayor Moratuwa MC
Mr. Mayor and the authorities of the Municipal Council Moratuwa,
thank you very much for your prompt action regarding the correction of
the erroneous spelling on the name-board at the entrance to the Holy
Emmanuel Church Road, Idama.
You are praiseworthy indeed!
C. MOHANLAL DE MEL – Moratuwa
Over to you Chief Minister of WPC and Chairman Panadura UC
This is with reference to the news item which appeared in the Daily
News of 27.04.2007, under the caption ‘Panadura road revamp programme
launched. Yet no action has been so far taken to repair the roads.
Most of the roads in the Panadura town which are supposed to be
maintained by the Panadura Urban Council are in a parlous state
especially with pools of water forming during rainy days causing much
inconvenience to the motorists and residents. Moreover there is no
proper surface drainage system.
I wish to draw the attention of the Chief Minister of the Western
Provincial Council and request him to intervene and ensure that the
repairs are attended to, by the Urban Council to the damaged roads
without delay or in the alternative that steps be taken to have them
duly repaired by thy Provincial RDA.
H. W. GOONESEKERA – Panadura
Over to you Chairman Ja-ela PS
On Wednesday, July 4th issue of the Daily News carried a picture of
the re-naming ceremony of Gamameda Para to Rev. Father Ernest Poruthota
Mawatha.
It however appears that he, the Chairman and the officials of the
Ja-ela Pradeshiya Sabha had not checked the nameboard for possible
errors, resulting in a serious error which I hope Fr. Poruthota will not
take amiss. The name of Fr. Poruthota is Ernest and not Arnest as
appearing on the nameboard.
I consider this as an avoidable error if at least a last minute check
was done.
The error has been done and it is left to the Ja-ela PS to rectify
the error without causing embarrassment to the genial priest.
J. I. ROSAIRO – Kandana
Over to you Chairman Water Board and Chairman RDA
We, the residents of Maligatenna wish to bring a few facts to your
attention and forthwith redress.
There is a main stock water tank erected at Maligatenna by the
relevant Water Board where there is a huge pipeline laid in order to
supply water to the suburbs which is badly maintained and caused damages
to the entire road.
This road has not been repaired for about one year but even though
complaints have been made to the relevant officers, all complaints have
been to no avail.
There are nearly 500 residents using the same road daily facing
severe hardship.
We hope that the authorities will take action to repair the road to
avoid more inconveniences to the public.
A. SURENDRA - Kadugannawa
Over to you Mayor Colombo MC
I have been complaining about the blocked drains on Guildford
Crescent and Rajakeeya Mawatha, Colombo 7 to the Municipal Commissioner,
the Deputy Municipal Commissioner, the engineer at the District 3 Gamini
Goonasekera for a very long time. All these people have been contacted
with little success of any work being done.
Both drains are open drains to start with and then become closed
drains. The open drains are supposed to be cleaned by a private company
but they are never cleaned. Our rates are exceedingly high. But we have
to get our gardeners to clean the open drains.
The closed drains are blocked because of all the silt and garbage.
The slightest rain floods our homes and gardens. A lot of valuable
equipment has been damaged as a result.
We have all come down with Chikungunya and Dengue fever. In this
neighbourhood almost everyone has had dengue fever repeatedly and a
child has died at Guildford Crescent, due to dengue fever.
Engineer Gooneskera when last contacted said he has no resources to
clean these drains and for me to tell the Mayor that he is like a
soldier going to war with no weapons. He says he does not have the
equipment to clean the closed drains. What is the council doing with our
rates money then? I would really appreciate if we could have these two
municipal drains cleaned.
