Dullas wants officials to shed luxury

COLOMBO: Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has directed State transport sector officials to practise austerity whilst engaged in official duties including doing away with luxury air travel or star class accommodation during their tour of duty.

Accordingly, officials of all grades in the Ministry and institutions coming under it, including the Minister himself, will be required to travel economy class whenever they go abroad on official visits.

The Ministerial directive also calls for discussions, conferences and workshops of the Ministry to be organised at State venues at all times and not at star class hotels.

“At a time the people are undergoing many hardships it is only proper that State officials desist from indulgence.

We should take collective measures to ease these constraints on the public.

It is our duty to set an example by giving up our lavish lifestyles,” Alahapperuma said.
