No chicken imports, says minister

COLOMBO: Livestock Development Minister R.M.B. Rathnayake during discussions with Trade, Marketing Development, Co-operative Services and Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardena agreed not to import chicken or other products produced by local livestock farmers.

Referring to reports in certain newspapers, Rathnayake said about 300,000 livestock farmers contribute to the national income and he would not allow the Government to facilitate anybody to import livestock products in an unwanted manner disturbing the development of the local livestock industry.
