Citizens Charter will greatly benefit public - Minister Jayasuriya

POLONNARUWA: Opening the first day service of the third "Janasathkara
Sevaya" held in Polonnaruwa over the weekend Public Administration and
Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya said that he has no regrets over
his decision to join the Government since it is the duty of all to
strengthen the hand of the President at the present juncture.
"Earlier, a solution could not be arrived at due to the lack of a
majority in Parliament. We have now provided this to the Government",
said Jayasuriya. Minister Jayasuriya said he was convinced about the
ability of the President to deal with the national problem. Hence the
decision of the UNP Democratic Group to join hands with the Government.
He said the "Citizens Charter" to be implemented from August 1, 2007
will serve to create awareness among the public on the exact duration
within which an official task will be accomplished. The Charter will
also hold Divisional Secretaries directly responsible for any delays in
the implementation of official tasks. Home Affairs Minister Chandrasiri
Gajadeera stressed that the need of the hour was correct political
leadership. Public servants should work without idling . The
Janasathkara Sevaya ended after solutions being found for 11,967 out of
16,963 public petitions submitted to the respective offices of the
various departments.
