Backhoe damages power cable

COLOMBO: An underground power supply cable at Vipulasena Mawatha was heavily damaged by a backhoe deployed for road repair work, a Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) official said yesterday.

According to the official the damage was estimated at around Rs. 8 million.

The damage had not affected the power supply in the city thus far, the official said adding however that supply may have to be disconnected to effect repairs to the damage.
