Postal, Telecom Bank Union employees make contribution to Defence

COLOMBO: Employees of the joint Postal Department and the Sri Lanka
Telecom Cooperative Bank Union made a contribution to the Defence Fund
by handing over a cheque to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees
yesterday.
The Bank Union’s Chairman K. R. K. M. Jayasinghe said that the union
represents around 15,000 employees who had generously donated from their
month of March salary, following a proposal approved at the Annual
General Meeting held this year. He said that the union envisages to
contribute to the Defence Fund in the future too.
Jayasinghe said that the union has been in existence for over 78
years to date and includes members who have contributed to this worthy
cause, irrespective of race, religion, caste and region, inclusive of
the North and East.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa,
Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P. B. Jayasundera, the Union’s Vice
Chairman S. Abeywickrema, Secretary P. S. Wijebandara, General Manager
W. E. K. Thilakarathna and others participated on this occasion.
