Youngest MD at newest star hotel

LALITHA Hotel, built in a scenic location at Pamburana, Matara on the Galle Road, is another milestone in Lanka’s Hotel Industry.

Although not yet classified, this luxurious hotel has all the modern features of a star class property.

When I visited Matara last week, I was amazed to see this beautiful hotel standing majestically at Matara.

It can certainly be classified as second to none of the star class city hotels.

The project is the brainchild of small entrepreneur, ‘Timber mill owner turned hotelier”, H. L. Lionel. The marvellous architecture of the hotel is the combined efforts of Lionel and Architect, Anura Siriwardena.

Lalitha Hotel has four suites and 24 deluxe rooms with all modern facilities of a star hotel, including hot-cold water, A/C, TV, telephone with IDD facilities, a 24-hour room service, laundry service etc.

All rooms have been built with balconies in order that guests could enjoy the natural cool breeze of the golden beaches of Devundara and Mirissa. All rooms have been designed with beautiful interior decor.

The hotel has a beautiful swimming pool, built at the entrance. Another unique feature is the three banquet halls, ‘Emerald’ which is fully air conditioned and carpeted and could accommodate over 300 guests.

The ‘Sapphire’ banquet hall, air conditioned and carpeted, could accommodate over 200 guests while the ‘Ruby’ - non A/C, banquet hall can accommodate over 300 guests.

With a capacity of over 500 guests, it is the largest in the Southern Region, and within a short period of the opening of the hotel, it has become extremely popular for large scale weddings, banquets and other functions.

It is the ideal venue for in-house workshops, seminars and conferences for which the hotel offers all modern facilities.

The two restaurants at the hotel offer the very best in Western, Eastern, Chinese and International cuisine prepared by Executive Chef, Pushpakumara Pathinayaka and his kitchen brigade of expert cooks.

The spicy Sri Lankan cuisine with delicious seafood specialities from the ‘catch of the day’ from the Devundara and Mirissa beaches, and the Saturday night BBQ have become big hits not only among Sri Lankans but foreign tourists.

‘We are planning to add seven more guest rooms in the near future’ said young and charming Sumudu Maduranga, probably the youngest female Managing Director of a star class hotel in Sri Lanka’s hotel industry.

Lalitha Hotel is owned and managed by Lalitha Hotel (Pvt) Ltd Pamburana, Matara. Its Directors are H. L. Lionel (Chairman) Sumudu Maduranga (Managing Director), Anula Weeratunga (Director), and Samadhi Ruchiranga (Director).

Lalitha Hotel can be reached via email. [email protected]
