Census and Statistics Dept launches website

COLOMBO: Absence of correct data regarding the country enables unscrupulous persons to take undue advantage and taint the county’s image by painting a wrong picture about it to the outside world.

In this context the inauguration of a new website by the Census and Statistics Department to feed correct data to the Internet is most praiseworthy, said Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake.

The Prime Minister said, this after inaugurating the Census and Statistics Department’s new website at the Department premises yesterday.

The Prime Minister said, 189 UN-member nations signed the Millennium Development Accord in 2006. Under this accord, the signatories have agreed to minimise hunger, illiteracy, gender inequality and environmental degradation which are different aspects of poverty.

Data was necessary to see whether Sri Lanka is on its way to achieve millennium goals.
