COLOMBO: The life of the child admitted to the Badulla Hospital with a minor cut in the nose for treatment is not in danger as reported by some sections of the media, a Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry said yesterday.

Badulla Hospital Director Dr. M. D. Dharmapriya said the person who treated the child first was not a physician registered with the State.

It was reported that the physician had allegedly stapled the severed nose and the life of the child was in danger.

Health Ministry statement quoting Dr. Dharmapriya said there was no danger to the child’s life.

Uva Director of Health Shelton Chandrasiri acting on Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, directive had taken steps to inquire into the incident. He had also informed the Health Ministry that Badulla Police was investigating.
