EXPORTS: Steps would be taken to seek the assistance of the
Korean government to develop gem and jewellery exports of Sri Lanka,
said Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Korea, Asitha Perera, when he met Sri
Lanka Gem and Jewellery Authority Chairman Hasitha Tillekeratne and his
deputation from the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association recently.
The ambassador said he would explore the possibility of getting duty
concessions so that the opportunity for Sri Lanka’s gems and jewellery
in the Korean market could be increased. Further, arrangements would
also be made to open up an exhibition in Korea in September this year
for Sri Lanka’s exports, with special emphasis on gems and jewellery.
Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association Chairman Chanaka Ellawala,
Vice Chairman (Gem Sector) Sheriff Rahuman and Executive Committee
Member M. Imthizam stressed on expanding the opportunity for Sri Lanka
gems in the Korean market, the importance of easing the difficulties,
specially those caused by the tax policies of the Korean government. |
