Sebastianites clinch boys under 15 cager title

BASKETBALL: St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa scored a thrilling 78 points to 75 victory over Asian International School in their Boys Under 15 `A' division Basketball tournament match played at St. Joseph's College courts, Colombo recently.

At half time the scores read 41 to 46 points in favour of Asian International School. However Sebastianites fought back exceptionally well to bring up the tally to 78 points to 75 points to win the match.

Sanitha de Mel and Kasun Madushanka who scored 21 points each were the heroes for Sebastianites with Arshula Cooray also scoring 13 points for the winners.

Yahren Tissera who scored 30 points played a key role for the losers ably helped by Chamara Wimalananda who scored 23 points.

Before reaching the final St. Sebastian's Cagers beat Colombo International School by a close margin of 89 points to 82 in the semi finals played at Darley Road.

At half time scores stood at 38 points to 51 with Colombo International taking the lead. But Sebastanities made a stirring come back in the third and fourth quarters with Prashastha Hemachandra and Virosh Dharmadasa scoring more points to put Sebastanities into the lead which brought them victory.

Prashastha with a total of 34 points and Virosh with 24 points were the chief scorers for the winners while Sanitha de Mel with 33 and Stephan Fernando with 27 points stood out for the losers.

Asian International School cagers earned their place in the final when they defeated the hosts St.Joseph's College in a closely contested match by 61 points to 59 played at the same venue.

At half time Asian International School cagers were leading by 32 points to 26. Yahren Tissera with 27 and Chamara Wimalananda with 12 points were the main shooters for winners while Shane Seneviratne with 16 and Yohan Keyser with 15 were the main contributors for losers.

In the quarter finals St. Joseph's College beat St.Benedict's College by 60 points to 53. The half time scores were 26 to 19 in favour of Joes. Yohan Keyser (26) and Praneeth Udumalagala (9) were the scorers for winners while Udayanga Perera (18) and Sanjaya Gamlath (17) were the scorers for Bens.

Colombo International School trounced Maris Stella by 83 points to 48 with the half time score of 43 to 27 points with CIS grabbing the lead. Prashastha Hemachandra (31) and Virosh Dharmadasa (20) top scored for CIS while Rayan Harintha (15) and Akila Jayawardane (12) were the chief scorers for the losers.

In the consolation final Colombo International School downed hosts St.Joseph's College by 55 points to 32 with the best scoring coming from Prashastha Hemachandra (25) and Virosh Dharmadasa (13). The half time scores read 19 to 13 in favour of CIS. Shane Seneviratne (10) and Praneeth Udumalagala (7) were the top scorers for the Josephians.
