Bus fare anomalies to be rectified

COLOMBO: The Government will launch the revised new private bus fair cycle by June 10 amending the irregularities of the prices in the National Transport Policy, hoping to provide a quality bus service for commuters, said Transport Minister Dalas Alahapperuma.

He said there are 12 indexes to measure bus fares in the National Transport Policy and they would include three indexes on improving the quality service for the benefit of passengers.

He said that the appointed committee headed by Prof. Amal Kumarage, officials of Private Bus Owners Association including commuters will hand over the finalised report which would concentrate on a quality bus service.

The bus fare revision will be implemented from July 1 and three private bus owners associations have agreed to this decision with three conditions.
