Lankan shuttlers off to Singapore

BADMINTON: Six Sri lankan shuttlers will leave the island today to take part in the Cheers Asian Satellite Badminton Championships which will be held in Singapore from May 31 to June 02.

The Sri Lankan team consists of Lasitha Menaka, Sameera Sandakelum, Yukthi Rangana Perera, Amila Yatapana, Udara Nayanajith, Devendra Bandara. They have been trained under Pradeep Welagedera.

The qualifying rounds will be worked out on the first day while on the second day, the preliminary rounds will be staged. The quarter finals and semi finals will be played on the first of June. The finals will be held on June 02.

All matches will be played at the Singapore Badminton Hall and the tournament is organised by the Singapore Badminton Association.

This tournament is considered as a one which the toughest players in the world are taking part. This will be a very good exposure for the lankan players.
