Lankan expats in Britain plan major anti - LTTE protest
COLOMBO: The Sri Lankan expatriate community in Britain is
planning a major protest campaign on June 8, asking the UK Government
not to lift the ban on the LTTE. The protest campaign has been organised
by all three major expatriate communities in the UK Sinhala, Tamil and
Muslim.
The Chairman of the Sri Lanka "Janahanda" foundation speaking to the
"Daily News" said with the impending elections in the UK, they had
received information about a plot by certain politicians campaigning for
the lifting of the ban with the intention of getting votes from the Sri
Lankan Tamil community.
The protest campaign is planned to be held in front of the Parliament
building in London.
According to Sri Lal Dias, the intention of this campaign would be to
reveal the true face of the LTTE in front of the international diaspora.
Already, a number of organisations have come forward for this purpose
and some of them are to meet UK Parliamentarians personally to educate
them on the matter, Dias said.
Dias also added that it was the duty of all Sri Lankans to come
forward in protecting the national interest at this critical juncture,
be it abroad or local. |
