1490 volunteer teachers in NCP confirmed

ANURADHAPURA: A total 1490 volunteer teachers in the North Central Province will receive their letters of confirmation on June 03.

Chief Minister's Secretary Sunil Tillakaratne told the "Daily News" that volunteer teachers in the Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura districts will receive their appointment letters at the Polonnaruwa Royal College and at the Anuradhapura Domestic Sports Auditorium on June 3. Higher Education Minister Susil Premjayanth, NCP Governor Karunaratne Divulgane, NCP Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake will participate.

Tilakaratne said Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake has submitted a list of 1585 volunteer teachers based on the results of the interviews and appeals for the sanction of the Education Ministry. However out of that only 1490 teachers will be absorbed into permanent cadre.

He said the Chief Minister has intended to get the approval of the Line Ministry to commission the balance 95 teachers as permanent teachers.

He said nearly 2000 volunteer teachers are engaged in teaching on volunteer basis at distant difficult schools in threatened villages.

The Chief Minister who is also the Provincial Education Minister would discuss with the Education Minister for a strategy to consider the confirmation of such volunteers.
