BADMINTON: All top players in their respective age groups entered
quarter final rounds on the day three of their 36th Junior National
Badminton championships continued at SLBA and Royal College courts
Colombo, yesterday.
The top seed Eranga Fernando (Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala) booked
a place in the under 19 boys singles quarter finals when he received a
walk over from S.Peiris (CIS).
The other shuttlers who cruised into the quarter finals of this event
are bottom seed Lasitha Menaka (Sri Sumangala, Panadura), N.K.
Jayasuriya (Royal), K.G.K. Jayawardane (Dharmaraja), N. Hettiarachchi (Ananda),
S.D. Peiris (St. John’s, Nugegoda), R.S. Dahanayake (Dharmaraja) and I.
Maduranga (Darmashoka, Ambalangoda).
In the girls under 19 event top seed Erani Welivitagoda (Holy Family
Convent), bottom seed I. Piyushani (Linsey) and her team mate Ishara
Udayangani entered quarter finals while R. Chathurika will meet N.
Wanamali and the winner will be selected to the semi finals. In the
under 17 girls pre quarter finals top seed Gayani Perera (Anula
Vidyalaya, Nugegoda) beat C. Kahadawela 21/10, 21/6 to secure her
position in the quarter finals.
Bottom seed Suboda Ratnayake (Musaeus) beat Nimesha 21/6, 21/7 to
enter quarter finals while K.H.T. Nilakshi (Anula), Senani Ranjula (Sri
Sumangala, Panadura), S. Weerasinghe (Mahamaya), B. Wimalasinghe (Anula),
Iranya Ratnayake and Naduni (Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda) also won their
matches respectively to enter under 17 girl’s singles quarter finals.
In the under 17 boys singles event N. Hettiarachchi (Ananda), R.S.
Kasun (St. John’s, Nugegoda), M. Wijeratne (Royal), R. Hettiarachchi
(St. Joseph’s), U. Nayanajith, C. Manawadu (Royal), Sankalpa Gunawardane
(St. Anthony’s, Kandy) and Nayanakantha (Ananda) entered quarter finals.
In the under 15 boys singles A.K. Kariyawasam (Ananda), T.L. Dickson
(D.S), H.S. Perera (Dharmaraja), Didula Sahabandu (St.Peter’s), C.
Minimuthu (Alethea), I.K. Gurusinghe (Dharmaraja) and Omesh Fernando (St.Sebastian’s,
Moratuwa) entered quarter finals while Lekha Sehani, S. Nanayakkara,
Mansala Ranawana, U. Senanayake, S.T. Wickkramasooriya, S. Shanaz, C.
Ranasuriya and C. Madurawa entered girls under 15 quarter finals.
