Sri Lankans win match but lose series

CRICKET: Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 115 runs in the third and
final match of the Warid Cricket series at the Sheikh Stadium on
Tuesday.
This victory was a consolation for the Sri Lankans after they lost
the first two games and the series. The Lankans led by Mahela
Jayawardena did a fine job in restricting the Pakistanis to a total of
181 chasing a target of 297.
Pakistanis could not get off to a good start as like in the earlier
games and lost the first wicket with the score on five. It was Maharoof
who did the early damage for the Pakistanis trapping him lbw. The second
wicket pair of Mohammed Hafeez and Yasir Hameed did a good job
collecting 55 runs to put Pakistan to a good position.
Hafeez departed when Dilhara Fernando struck a big blow, to have
Pakistan struggling at 62 for two. From there onwards it was Sri Lanka
who put more pressure on the Pakistanis.
Pakistani wickets tumbled at regular intervals but their skipper
played a fine innings to be unbeaten on 79. His knock included four
boundaries and four power packed sixes which came off in 85 balls.
Dilhara Fernando became the most successful bowler for the Sri Lankan
camp capturing three wickets giving away 20 runs from seven overs. He
was also the most economical bowler and was declared the Man of the
Match.
Shahid Afridi who played a vital innings in the first game and took
three wickets in the second game which also helped his side to seal
victory of the match and the series victory was declared the Man of the
series by the adjudicator.
