National Youth Flag Day launched
COLOMBO: The National Youth Policy Draft Bill was launched at the
Youth Affairs Ministry by Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi on May 23 as
part of ceremonies to mark the National Youth Day.
A highlight of the event was the inauguration of the National Youth
Flag Day by the President by purchasing the first flag from Minister
Pavithra Wanniarachchi at Temple Trees.
Youth Affairs Ministry Website (www.youthmin.gov.lk) was also
launched by the Minister as a part of the ceremonies.
A Youth Affairs Ministry release said the Youth Policy Draft Bill was
finalised after considering all problems related to youth in detail and
taking UNESCO and Commonwealth observations on it into careful
consideration.
It has identified five primary objectives as well as youth rights and
responsibilities. Eight strategies for its implementation have also been
identified.
The National Youth Policy will be implemented through two main
institutions namely the National Youth Commission and the Inter
Ministerial Executive Committee on National Youth Activity Plan and
Youth Affairs.
The public will be given one month’s time to voice their views and
suggestions on the Draft Bill before it is tabled in Parliament for
approval after incorporating salient features.
